NAFEES ISLAMIC ACADEMY SCHOOL

Our Story

Pushtoons / Pathans have been living 12 miles from Karachi border on the suburbs of the Pakistan highway since last 50 odd years. They did not have any amenities or privileges but only lives in small huts and raise their children.
The main “professions” of their elders were (a) picking up & selling of trash from the city and (b) smuggling & selling cocaine (drugs). 100% of the 35,000 residents were illiterate.
One of them Dr. Enayat Rahman Khan, who somehow went to some madarsa and had some brain, decided to change fate of his community.
He did PhD from the University of Karachi and fortunate for him that he met the person who funded all his studies during the PhD. Mr. Yasin Malik, A big businessman and a wonderful philanthropist.
Dr. Enayat asked him a favor to help him raise funds for the school that he wanted to establish in the rural area of Karachi for a deprived community. Mr. Yasin Malik not only helped him raise funds but he himself donated a hefty amount of Rs 2 Million to build a building for school.
They named it Nafees Islamic Academy in the name of Mr. Yasin Malik’s late wife.
There were TWO challenges now. One, to persuade the community to send their children to learn MODERN education along with Islamic teachings and Two, to raise more funds for (a) School books, (b) Uniforms, (c) Furniture.
That’s where Dr. Enayat met me in the office of Mr. Yasin Malik on this matter. I was already a Quranic Arabic translation student of Dr. Enayat.
I remember we sat together, made the policy of the school and divided the tasks amongst us to start operations of the school.
Dr. Enayat took the responsibility of persuading the elders of his community to send their children to school while I took the responsibility to gather funds for the operations of the school.
This way the first teachers were hired, students were invited for admission (Free of cost), initially there was no uniform and only rugs to sit on.
We bought school books of various classes from 1 to 5 and distributed among the students and the school started. It took 5 months to do all this which I just described in few sentences.
Of course, a lot was done by my old school Alumni friends, relatives and family to collect funds for the school.

Boys Uniform

Its now 8th year that the school Alhamdulillah is running with a batch of 200 students, 11 teachers and few other staff.
All the funding is being managed through family, friends and philanthropists. But we have to go a long way to raise it to the level of Matric school.

About the School

A beacon of hope has been ignited by a group of compassionate philanthropists who have dedicated themselves to breaking the barriers of educational access. This transformative initiative, a humble school, stands as a testament to the power of community-driven change. Currently sustained by the generosity of a few committed individuals, this educational heaven aspires to provide quality learning opportunities for the children of the region.
However, the journey towards educational excellence is not without its challenges. The school is in need of additional support to ensure that every child’s educational experience is enriched and unhindered by financial constraints. The funds currently in place cover the basic operational costs, but there is a pressing need for assistance in acquiring essential resources such as books, uniforms, and school furniture. These elements are not mere commodities; they represent the key to unlocking the full potential of each student, fostering an environment where knowledge can flourish, dreams can take root, and futures can be shaped.

In extending a helping hand to this noble cause, individuals have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a community, the empowerment of its youth, and the realization of the universal right to education. The philanthropists behind this endeavor invite fellow advocates of education to join hands in nurturing the seeds of knowledge and ensuring that the light of learning continues to shine brightly in the rural corners of Karachi. Together, we can build a foundation of hope, resilience, and opportunity for the generations to come.

School Management Leader

Dr. Mufti Inayat ur Rahman

School Management Leader
Nafees Islamic Academy

Dr. Inayat ur Rahman has initiated the idea to educate the most backward community living on the superhighway since before the partition.
Most of the boys were in drugs and trash picking business. All were 100% un-educated.
He worked hard to establish a Co-Ed school in a pathan vicinity while convincing the community heads and parents to send the children to school.
He acquired a building, raised funds to bring in teachers & staff, get furniture, books & uniforms and educate the children free of cost. Right now, more than 15 teachers and staff are serving 200+ students at the school.

A real hero for the community.
